Jennifer Damiano, Claybourne Elder, Leslie Odom Jr. and more will star in the new musical Venice at the Public Theater. The Lab production features direction and a book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax and lyrics by Rosen and Sax. Venice is set to run May 28 through June 23, with official opening night on June 13.
In addition to Damiano as Willow Turner, Elder as Michael Victor and Odom Jr. as Markos Monroe, the cast will include Uzo Aduba as Anna Monroe, Jonathan-David as Theodore Westbrook, Victoria Platt as Emilia Monroe, Angela Polk as Hailey Daisy, Matt Sax as Clown and Haaz Sleiman as Venice Monroe.
Billed as “part epic romance, part political tale,” the musical takes place in a fallen city in the not-so-distant future where politics and revolution are in the water. Venice fuses hip-hop and rock into one electrifying show about a young man’s rise against a backdrop of deceit and sibling betrayal.
Venice will feature choreography by Chase Brock (replacing the previously announced Sergio Trujillo), scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Jason Lyons, sound by Acme Sound Partners, projections by Jason H. Thompson and additional music by Curtis Moore.
